Ellis and Serratore crowned District 1 Champions as they lead Girls Track and Field to the State Championships -
8.0 years ago

Senior Tejarra Ellis was a late bloomer for the Lady Warriors Track and Field team, but she has now begun to realize her potential. Although not a member of the team in her freshman year, she has improved each year in both the shot put and the discus, the latter eventually becoming her strongest event.  Tejarra not only qualified for the PIAA State Championships for the first time, but did so in grand fashion by winning the discus in a school record throw of 133' 1" at the PIAA District 1 Championships on Saturday.

For the first time in 7 years, the girls crowned 2 District Champions.  Nicolette Serratore decided to change javelins prior to the meet and it paid huge dividends. Serratore broke the school record by 5 feet, tossing the winning throw 139' 0".  The only challenger to her mark ended up being her teammate, Jenny Martin.  Martin, also using a new javelin, also broke the old school record, her throw was 136' 2".

Those were not the only outstanding performances for the Lady Warriors as they battled almost 80 schools in District 1. Serratore will also be competing in the triple at States, as she finished 6th in the event with a state qualifying mark of 36' 8.75". Aghina Marshall will also be competing, but she will be in the Long Jump. Her 6th place finish of 17' 6.5" qualified her for the 3rd year in a row. Caroline Duffy will also be making a return trip to Shippensburg, courtesy of her 6th place finish in the 300M Hurdles. Duffy and Martin fell victim of the incredible depth of District 1 in a second event.  Duffy finished 9th in the 200M with a State qualifying time, but the maximum any district is allowed to take is 8.  Martin suffered the same fate in the 100M Hurdles, also placing 9th.  The 4x100 Relay of Amy Domenick, Kelly Groth, Gianna Fazio and Caroline Duffy easily ran the state qualifying mark, but finished 10th overall.

As a team, Methacton finished 5th overall in District 1.
