Girls Spring Track and Field Meeting on Tuesday in the LGI

There will be a meeting for all athletes interested in being a part of the Girls Spring Track and Field Team on Tuesday, February 7 at 2:30 pm in the LGI.  Any athlete that is unable to attend the meeting is asked to pick up the necessary forms and fill out the "sign-up" sheet in the Athletics Office. 

Girls Track and Field opens up with record breaking marks in 1st meet

The Methacton Girls Track and Field team opened up the season by setting 4 meet records and 2 school records at the 11th annual Oxenreider Relays on Saturday. In addition, the Lady Warriors walked off with the 1st place team trophy.
 
 
Starting off the meet was the Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of Jenny Martin, Nicolette Serratore, Lizzy Shadle and Dana Arcangelo, which crushed both the school and meet records, winning the event in a time of 1:04.74. The second event of the day was the Distance Medley Relay of Brianna Earnshaw, Elexa Sherman, Seline Tan-Torres and Kara Steinke, which also set school and meet records, winning in a time of 12:36.53. The other two meet records came from the jumping events and produced 4 District 1 qualifying performances. Katie Catania (36' 4.75") first teamed up Nicolette Serratore (34' 5") in the triple jump to outdistance all other jumpers by over 3 feet. Catania (17' 7.25") was then joined by Jenny Martin (16' 9.75") to surpass others by more than 2 feet. The Lady Warriors also placed 1st and 1qualified for Districts in the 4x100 Relay (Shadle, Kelly Fields, Carly Foster, Catania) at 50.79 seconds. Emma Sullivan (10' - District Qualifying) and Monica Sauer paired up to win the Pole Vault Relay. Vicki Schaffer (5' 0") and Aghina Marshall (4' 8") tied for 1st in the High Jump Relay.
 
 
Other outstanding performances that led to the overall team victory were 2nd place finishes by the 4x800 Relay (Elexa Sherman, Nicole Karsch, Brianna Earnshaw, Seline Tan-Torres - 10:07.63), the 4x200 Relay (Martin, Foster, Fields, Catania - 1:48.7) and the 4x400 Relay (Sherman, Zoe Bongiovanni, Serratore, Tan-Torres - 4:17.0). The Sprint Medley Relay of Foster, Arcangelo, Ashley Lucidonio and Jess McNally placed 3rd in their event (2:00.41).

Girls Track and Field off to a 2 - 0 PAC 10 record with big wins over PJP and Pottsgrove

The girls track and field team is off to a great start the PAC 10 season, posting a 131 - 19 win over Pottsgrove and a 125.5 - 24.5 win over Pope John Paul II. Highlighting the meet was Emma Sullivan breaking the school record in the Pole Vault with a mark of 11' 1". Katie Catania had an outstanding day, winning the long jump, triple jump and 100M Dash. Kara Steinke showed that she will be a force this spring, anchoring the 4x800 relay to a win and also winning both the 3200M and the 800M runs. Seline Tan-Torres posted 3 victories as well, winning the 300M Hurdles, 400M and anchoring the 4x400 relay. Freshman Jenny Martin posted a win in the 100M Hurdles, while veterans Vicki Schaffer, Sam Brownlie and Annie Moyer were strong in the field events. The Lady Warriors travel to PW this weekend for the PTFCA Classic before continuing their PAC 10 schedule next Wednesday with what will be a highly competitive meet with Spring Ford and Boyertown.

Girls Track and Field earns 14 medals and "Athlete of the Meet" honors at PA Track Classic

The Girls Track and Field team competed in the PA Track Classic on Saturday in less than ideal conditions but came away with 14 medals and the Athlete of the Meet. Despite 40 degree temperatures and a consistent rain showers, Emma Sullivan tied her school record in the Pole Vault and was awarded with the Athlete of the Meet honors. Katie Catania came away with a victory in the long jump and Seline Tan-Torres did the same in the 300M Hurdles. Kara Steinke ran the 3rd fastest time in the State so far this season in the 300M. Other medal winners included Elexa Sherman in the 800M, Kristin Beatty and Monica Sauer in the Pole Vault, Jenny Martin, Dana Arcangelo and Nicolette Serratore in the 100M Hurdles. Serratore also placed 2nd in the triple jump, Catania 4th in the 100M and Martin 5th in the long jump. The 4x100 relay team of Martin, Joanna Stefaniak, Carly Foster and Aghina Marshal placed 3rd. Next up for the Lady Warriors is their toughest contest of the regular season, a tri-meet with Boyertown and Spring-Ford on Wednesday.

Girls Track and Field continues to roll through the PAC 10

The Girls Track and Field team improved their record to 6 - 0 on the season with wins over Perkiomen Valley (107 - 43) and Phoenixville (124 - 26). The Lady Warriors spread the wealth again with event wins by Nicolette Serratore (Triple Jump and Javelin), Jenny Martin (Long Jump and 100M Hurdles), Seline Tan-Torres (300M Hurdles), Kara Steinke (3200M run), Emma Sullivan (Pole Vault) and Elexa Sherman (400M), as well as winning the 4x100 Relay and the 4x800 Relay. Freshman Jess Holub also had an outstanding meet with her performance in the 4x800 relay, 400M and 4x400 relay. The girls travel to Perkiomen Valley again this weekend for the Viking Invitational before returning for their last home meet of the season next Wednesday.
 
Congratulations to Jenny Martin, Joanna Stefaniak, Carly Foster and Aghina Marshall for their performance in the Freshman 4x100 Penn Relays qualifier meet on Thursday. Their time of 52.33 seconds was the fastest of all the schools in the Delaware Valley and earned them an opportunity to run at the Penn Relays at the end of April.

Girls Track and Field set School and Meet Records at the PV Invitational

The Girls Track and Field team continued their strong season by breaking school and meet records at the Viking Invitational, held at Perkiomen High School on Saturday. Highlighting the day were Seline Tan-Torres, Emma Sullivan and Jenny Martin. Tan-Torres won the 800M run with a new meet and school record of 2:15.43. She followed up that performance with a win in the 300M Hurdles at 45.74 and a solid anchor leg of the 4x400 relay, securing a 2nd place finish in the event with Elexa Sherman, Zoe Bongiovanni and Kelly Fields. Emma Sullivan also set a new meet record, clearing 10' 6" to win the pole vault. Having a very strong meet was Jenny Martin. Martin won the long jump with a mark of 17' 2" and the 100M Hurdles with a time of 15.14 seconds. Fellow freshman Nicolette Serratore earned 3 individual medals, placing 2nd in the triple jump (35' 6"), 3rd in the long jump (16' 9.5") and 4th in the 100M Hurdles (16.72 seconds). Vicki Schaffer earned 2 medals, placing 3rd in the High Jump (5' 0") and 4th in the Shot Put (31' 8"). Kristin Beatty (2nd PV), Elexa Sherman (5th - 400M), Quinlan Walther (5th HJ), the 4x800 Relay (4th) and 4x200 Relay (4th) also earned top 5 medals in the meet. The Lady Warriors host Pottstown on Wednesday in hopes of continuing their undefeated season.

 

2 more School Records set as Girls Track and Field improves to 7 - 0

The Girls Track and Field team erupted for a 134 - 16 win over Pottstown on Wednesday's afternoon's "Senior Day".  The seniors led the way with 2 athletes setting new school recods.  Vicki Shaffer broke the school record in the shot put with a throw of 35' 6.5" and fellow senior Emma Sullivan broke her own record in the pole vault by clearing 11' 3". Schaffer also won the high jump.  More accomplishments by the seniors include: Katie Catania winning both the 100M Dash and the Long Jump. Meredith Foulke winning the 3200m and a leg on the winning 4x800 relay. Nicole Karsch running on both the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relays. Annie Moyer winning the javelin.

Other event winners, although not seniors include: Seline Tan-Torres in both the 300M Hurdles and the 800M. Brianna Earnshaw in the 1600M. Jenny Martin in the 100M Hurdles. Carly Foster in the 200M. The "freshman" 4x100 of Martin, Joanna Stefaniak, Foster and Aghina Marshall. Nicolette Serratore in the triple jump. Sam Brownlie in the discus.

 
The girls travel to Great Valley on Saturday for the Great Valley Relays before going to Upper Perkiomen next Wednesday for their next PAC 10 competition.
 

Girls "Field and Track" sets 2 meet records and wins 3 events vs. top programs in District 1 at Great Valley

The Girls Track and Field team showed that they were just as strong in the field events as they are on the track at the Great Valley Relays.  Emma Sullivan and Kristin Beatty paired up to not only break their school record, but also set the meet record in the Pole Vault Relay, with Sullivan clearing 11' 1" and Beatty at 10' 0".  The tandem of Katie Catania and Jenny Martin also set the meet record in the Long Jump relay, with Catania leaping 17' 10" and Martin at 17' 3.5".  Catania then paired up with Nicolette Serratore to win the Triple Jump Relay, besting the other schools by almost 4 feet in their combined effort.

Overall, the girls earned 12 relay medals in the 15 event meet.  Nicolette Serratore not only won gold in the triple jump, but she added 2 silver medals to her collection as well.  In the shuttle hurdle relays, Jenny Martin, Dana Arcangelo and Lizzy Shadle completed the foursome to place 2nd, only .09 seconds from 1st.  In the javelin relay, Annie Moyer joined Serratore to capture 2nd.  The High Jump relay of Vicki Schaffer and Aghina Marshall placed 3rd, with both athletes clearing 4' 10".  Another 3rd place finish was the 4x800 relay of Elexa Sherman, Nicole Karsch, Brianna Earnshaw and Seline Tan-Torres, with their performance qualifying them for the District 1 Championships.

The girls will now begin their busiest week of the season, with 4 meets in a span of 3 days, which includes 2 trips to the Penn Relays.

Girls Track and Field remains undefeated with a rout of Upper Perk

The Girls Track and Field Team continued their undefeated streak by trouncing Upper Perkiomen by a score of 118 - 32.  Although several athletes were limited to an event or 2 due to their preparation for the Penn Relays, the Lady Warriors showed their depth by taking 16 of the 18 events.

 

Kara Steinke (800M and 3200M), Vicki Schaffer (High Jump and Shot Put), Katie Catania (Long Jump and 100M), and Jenny Martin (100Hurdles and Javelin) each tallied 2-event victories.  Emma Sullivan (Pole Vault), Jess Holub (400M), Nicolette Serratore (Triple Jump), Meredith Foulke (1600M) and Seline Tan-Torres (300M Hurdles) also won their event.  The girls posted victories in all 3 of the relays as well. Their record now stands at 8-0 in the PAC 10 this season, with only a very strong Owen J Roberts team standing in the way of their 7th straight undefeated season.

Freshman 4x100 Relay win at Penn Relays highlights a a great weekend for the Girls Track Team

The Girls Track and Field team had a busy weekend, competing in 3 meets over 3 days. The highlight of the weekend was the 9th grade 4x100 Relay Team of Jenny Martin, Joanna Stefaniak, Carly Foster and Aghina Marshall. The foursome won their event at the Penn Relays Carnival (picture attached) against all other schools throughout the Delaware Valley.
 
The 4x800 Relay (Elexa Sherman, Nicole Karsch, Brianna Earnshaw, Seline Tan-Torres), 4x400 Relay (Elexa Sherman, Kelly Fields, Zoe Bongiovanni, Seline Tan-Torres) and the "non-freshman" 4x100 (Lizzy Shadle, Kelly Fields, Vicki Schaffer, Katie Catania) all ran their fastest time of the year as well at the Penn Relays. Other highlights of the weekend included Kara Steinke winning the 1600M run and Jenny Martin winning the Javelin at the Lady Hatter Invitational on Friday. Both athletes set marks that qualify them for the District 1 Championships. The girls will conclude their regular PAC 10 season on Wednesday at Owen J Roberts.

Girls Track and Field ends the PAC 10 Regular Season at 9 - 0! Unbeaten streak now at 60 straight over 7 years!!

The Girls Track and Field Team ended their regular season PAC 10 schedule with a convincing 106 - 44 win against a very tough Owen J Roberts squad. The win marked the 7th consecutive undefeated regular season and a school record 60th consecutive win for the girls! A number of athletes stepped up with exceptional performances for the Lady Warriors in this complete team effort. Kara Steinke broke her own school record in the 1600M run with a time of 5:02. She also anchored the winning 4x800 relay team. Jenny Martin came away with wins in the 100M Hurdles, Javelin and as an member of the 4x100 relay team. She also placed 2nd in the Long Jump. Vicki Schaffer won both the High Jump and Shot Put, as well as placing 3rd in the Discus. Seline Tan-Torres pulled off wins in the 300 hurdles and the 800M, as well as placing 2nd in the 400M. Nura Gouda, Katie Catania and Emma Sullivan also came away with event wins. The girls travel to West Chester Henderson tomorrow before gearing up for the PAC 10 League Championships next weekend.

 

Kara Steinke sets 3200M Record and 10 District Qualifying performances headline Henderson Invitational

Kara Steinke set her 2nd school record in as many meets, this time setting the mark in the 3200M run at 10:43.15 at the West Chester Henderson Invitational on Friday night.  That mark is the 2nd fastest in PA this spring.  Katie Catania earned 4 medals at the meet with 4 District Qualifying performances.  She placed 3rd in the Long Jump, 4th in the Triple Jump, 4th in the 100M and 4th as a member of the 4x100 relay with Jenny Martin, Carly Foster and Vicki Schaffer in a meet that featured 70 schools from 4 different States.  Jenny Martin also placed 3rd in the 100M Hurdles with the fastest time by a PAC 10 athlete this season.  The pole vault duo of Emma Sullivan and Kristin Beatty placed 3rd and 6th in the event. Nicolette Serratore placed 6th in the triple jump and 9th in the 100M Hurdles.

The girls now prepare for their toughest meet of the season, the PAC 10 Championships, which begin on Friday afternoon and conclude on Saturday.

Girls Track and Field wins 4th straight PAC 10 Title, 7th straight overall!!!

Coming off a perfect 9 - 0 season in the PAC 10 and running their undefeated dual meet streak to 60 consecutive wins, the Girls Track and Field Team put together another incredible team effort to win their 4th straight PAC 10 League Championship and 7th straight league title overall (including 2006-2008 in the Suburban One). The only team to score in all 18 events, the girls were dominant in all areas of the sport.

Kara Steinke not only won the the 3200M run and was a member of the winning 4x800 relay with Brianna Earnshaw, Elexa Sherman and Nicole Karsch, but she also broke her school record in winning the 1600M run, being the first female athlete in school history to crack the 5 min barrier. Senior Katie Catania had another outstanding weekend, winning the 100M, Triple Jump and teaming up with Jenny Martin, Carly Foster and Kelly Fields to win the 4x100 Relay. She also placed 2nd in the Long Jump. Fellow senior Emma Sullivan set a Meet Record in the Pole Vault, winning the event with a vault of 11' 2". 

Jenny Martin placed in 4 events over the weekend, including 2nd in the 100M Hurdles, 3rd in the Long Jump and 4th in the Javelin, to go along with the 4x100 relay gold. Seline Tan-Torres earned 3 medals, placing 3rd in the 300M Hurdles and the 400M, as well as anchoring the 4x400 Relay with Elexa Sherman, Jess Holub and Kelly Fields to a silver medal. Battling through injuries, Nicolette Serratore had a gutsy performance, placing in both the triple jump (2nd) and the 100M Hurdles (6th).  Kristin Beatty earned a silver medal in the Pole Vault. Vicki Schaffer placed 3rd in the Shot Put and 8th in the High Jump. Nura Gouda (Discus), Jess Holub (400), Carly Foster (200), Nicole Karsch (800), Brianna Earnshaw (1600), Dana Arcangelo (100M Hurdles), Kelly Fields (100M), Lizzy Shadle (300M Hurdles), Monica Sauer (PV) and Lizzy Kapralic (PV) also placed in the top 8 of their event earning crucial team points.  Overall, the girls outscored 2nd place Spring-Ford 163 - 133.  The Lady Warriors travel to Coatesville on Friday for the District 1 Championships.

Girls Track and Field sets a 4x800 school record, Catania wins TJ and earns 7 medals at the District 1 Championships

The Girls Track and Field Team continued their strong season with another outstanding performance at the District I Championships over the weekend. Katie Catania became the 4th athlete over the past 5 years to win a District Title. Her leap of 38' 2.5" in the triple jump won the event.

The 4x800 Relay Team of Elexa Sherman, Nicole Karsch, Kara Steinke and Seline Tan-Torres broke the school record twice over the weekend, placing 6th in a time of 9:16.12. Kara Steinke added a 3rd place finish in the 3200M run, less than a second off her school record, completing the race in 10:43.99. Seline Tan-Torres added a 3rd place finish in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 44.96 seconds. Jenny Martin took home a 4th place finish in the 100M Hurdles with a PR of 14.77 seconds. Nicolette Serratore earned 2 medals, a 5th place finish in the triple jump at 36' 10" and a 7th place finish in the Javelin at 116' 7". As a team, the girls earned 36 pts, 5th best in District 1.  All athletes mentioned will be competing in the PA State Championships this weekend at Shippensburg University.
